Think about the video "This is modern art" that we watched in class. Were you already familiar with the artists that Matthew Collings discussed (Picasso, Pollock, and Warhol)? If you were how has your opinion of their art changed after watching the video? If you were not, what planet are you from?! (just kidding of course) DId you have any other response to the video or the work that surprised you? Why?
Before watching the movie .. I was familiar with Picasso ... and had vaguely heard the names Pollock and Warhol. After watching the movie the idea of Picasso changed in my head. I never knew the changing pattern of his art and now I can relate to the things what they probably meant. The last piece 'Self Portrait' .. staring death in the eyes said a lot about his character and what he wanted to portray throughout his living years through his art.
ReplyDeleteThe questions I'm left wondering after watching the video are :
1. Warhol left me wondering , Can films be art ?
2. If old modern art is 'modern art' then why the new art is still being described in the same category ? Then what is new art ?
3.Why was Pollock so sensitive to criticism ? was it a mental problem ? was it insecurity ? or was it the dissatisfaction from his own art ? Was he really not an intellect and just a phony that happened to create great art ?
4.Why Picasso played around with where he positioned the eyes on a face ?
5. Why Picasso painted women ugly and bold and just out there ? Why he never painted the beauty of women in a more sophisticated manner ?
Before watching the video, I was pretty familiar with Pablo Picasso. With paintings such as "Weeping Woman" and the such, my opinion anbout tye artist haven't really changed, except about how well they used their art to reflect and move others towards social change. But hey, why should I be surprised about what they do, is that not why most artists do their work for all to see??? In my opinion, I think so because that's exactly why I would do it.
