Homework Due 11/16

For this week your homework is to decide on a topic that you would like to research for your paper & presentation.
Your topic could be also be a question that have come up with in the class and that you would like to try and answer through research. For you blog post, provide the topic/question and any images that might relate to the topic.
Here is the rubric I will be using to grade your lessons:

Art Investigation Project
For your final project you are to research an artist or topic that we have covered in class so far. If you would like to choose another topic ok it with me first. You will research your topic and present a short 5 minute lesson about your topic you will also turn in a 2 page paper that shows your research and supports you ideas.
These are the areas I will be looking for while grading your projects.

Have you formulated your own ideas and opinions about the topic that you chose?
Is the lesson taught in a creative/effective manner?
Have you researched your topic sufficiently?
Presentation and ideas are organized and clear
Have you presented the cultural and historical context of the artist/artwork as well as a formal analysis?

HOMEWORK DUE 10/10/2011

For your homework this week. I want you to discover textures in your environment and create a frottage (rubbing). Use any sheet of paper and try pencil, crayon , or chalk to see which materials get the most detailed texture. Then I want you to imagine the textures as part of a fantastic landscape or imaginary creature. Watch the video of Max Ernst creating his frottages for inspiration. Then post an image and describe how you created the work. Next week we will be researching various artists and because we are a little behind I have decided to postpone the midterm until Monday the 17th. Have a great weekend!

HOMEWORK Due Wed

HOME WORK (due Wed)
Think about the site specific art of Andy Goldsworthy, Gabriel Orozco, and Jessica Stockholder.
Try to look at your environment in the same way they do and look for ways to create lines, emphasize space, or distort they way things look as you drive, walk, or just do your daily activities.
Create 3 different site specific art works with any found material and document them with a digital camera.
Post the images on the blog and describe your thinking behind each piece.

First class post

Think about the video "This is modern art" that we watched in class. Were you already familiar with the artists that Matthew Collings discussed (Picasso, Pollock, and Warhol)? If you were how has your opinion of their art changed after watching the video? If you were not, what planet are you from?! (just kidding of course) DId you have any other response to the video or the work that surprised you? Why?
