John T. Biggers Research

(1924-2001) John T. Biggers was a African American Artist. He was born in Gastonia, North Caralina. As a child he attended Lincoln Academy and grew and met this mentor Victor Lowenfield. He advised Biggers to study paintings in the African culture. John T. Biggers then layed hands on Texas southern in 1949 and was know to be called "carncas master of the human condition". His most famous art work was called the "upper room". I really thought the meaning of his art was very strong. It certainly represents the African American effort in the past. Most but not least, shows the faith of strong black women and how it integrates African American families of this day. This great African American was the father of 27 public art paintings that took place at Texas southern university, Penn State, Hampton University and Dallas.
